"Icky" moments (It's LONG)
On our way home from Spokane Ashley told Andy she needed to go potty. It was almost time for us to stop for lunch so we asked her if she could hold it for a little longer. She was okay, and we were grateful, since we were in the middle of nowhere. After about 15 minutes she starts telling us again that she needs to go potty. So we start to look for any sign of a bathroom... nothing! Ashley then starts to dance like crazy and is now in tears. We finally saw an Inn up ahead. I told Andy to stop and we ran in to this really rundown Inn. The guy at the desk tells me that they didn't have a public restroom but to go down to an open door and the housekeeper would let us in. We run down to the last door and HE let us in. I took Ashley into the bathroom and it had one of those doors that slide into the wall. Keep in mind that this place was already creepy, so I didn't want the guy watching us. I started to close the door and saw that the handle on the inside was broken off. I closed it just enough that I thought I could slide it back open. Ashley did her business and as we tried to slide the door open it got stuck!!! The housekeeper left the room and we were trapped. I tried prying it open but I could barely get my fingertips in at this point. I tried wedging my fingers through the crack at the bottom of the door to slide it... no use. I started to panic and I was SCREAMING for help!!! I was pounding on the door and walls and nobody came to our rescue. I didn't have my phone, otherwise I would have just called Andy to get us the heck out of there. We were only in there for about 10 or 15 minutes but it seemed like much longer. I finally had a thought to stick my fingers under the door and pull it toward me. It started moving and I was able to hold it open with a gap big enough for Ashley to crawl through. I tried to explain to her how to open the door and sent her through in hopes she would let me out. It took her a few minutes, but she did it! When we returned to the car Andy said he was getting nervous and was about to come in and see if we were okay. At least he was thinking of helping us. :{
Last week Katie woke me up screaming. I went into her room to find her eyes were still shut. I figured she must have had a nightmare, so I pulled her out of bed and brought her to ours. She was awfully restless and Andy was getting pretty irritated so I switched places and climbed to the center of the bed. After about 2 hours I was so hot and sweaty that I couldn't stand it. I climbed back over Katie and thought, "Man, I don't usually sweat that much." I pulled the sheet back over me and the corner flipped me in the face. I was fuming at that point! I jumped out of bed and said to Andy, "She peed the bed!!!" Andy responded, "Are you sure?" What? I then yelled, "Why would I joke about that at 2:30 in the morning?!" I stripped the pee soaked clothes off me and started taking care of the bed. Andy stripped the pee soaked clothes off Katie and took care of her. It was not a fun night and we decided she is NEVER allowed in our bed again!
On Sunday we sat down as a family and watched the movie Swiss Family Robinson. The girls were enjoying it thoroughly until it came to the part when the boys are in the river and they get attacked by a huge python. They got over it quickly and finished the movie. Since then Ashley is convinced that she saw a snake in her room and refuses to sleep through the night. Last night she convinced Katie that she was scared, too. I was able to get Ashley to go back to sleep and Andy took Katie downstairs for a bit. He said he wasn't feeling great and couldn't sleep anyway. A few minutes later they came up and Andy said, "Katie threw up." I asked if he was serious. (Why would he joke about that at 2:30 in the morning?--- I asked for it.) I took Katie and bathed her while Andy cleaned up downstairs. We laid her back down and dealt with Ashley screaming... again! We thought they were both settled down and a few minutes later we heard both of them screaming. I threw the door open and found out Katie threw up again. I bathed Katie and Andy cleaned up the mess in Ashley's bed. Apparently Katie missed her bed and got Ashley's on the way down. Yuck!!! We finally laid Katie in our room on a blanket on the floor. About 10 minutes later I heard the barf sound and shot out of bed. Katie missed the blanket and got my floor with bright pink puke!!! It was the worst so far. We went through the motions... again! It was about 5 in the morning before we were able to get some shut eye. Poor Andy, he had an early meeting and had to be up at 6.
Sammy's alarm went off at 6:50 and I went in to get her started for the day. She said, "Mom, my tummy hurts." Was this a strategy to stay home from school or was she really sick? I told her to take a shower and get dressed and then tell me how she was feeling. She agreed and then about 5 minutes later she came in and said, "Mommy, my tummy really hurts. It feels like I need to throw up." Great! I grabbed the bowl that was useless to Katie and told her to aim if she needed to spill her guts. About an hour later she did just that! I was so tired I was barely coherent when I think I called the school. I assume I did because they didn't call me, but I could have been dreaming. The puking has finally stopped, but I'm waiting for Ashley, Andy, or myself to start. Needless to say it was a very long night and morning and I'm ready for peace because we are sick and tired... literally!

S2S
Emily and Nate waiting for the race to begin at 5:30 in the morning!!! (Emily organized our team) And below is Sarah Smith-sister- is the one on the far left in the blond wig.
(The finished look! I wish I had more close-ups. They looked pretty cool!)
Amy finished with her second leg and just waiting/resting her legs.
I was so tired and hot and near the end I felt like I couldn't finish. I looked up and saw my brother, Nate, from a distance and I almost broke into tears. He ran with me all the way to the next exchange. It was so nice to see my big brother there for me.My next leg was at about midnight. It was pitch black and I was not feeling my best. I had a headache that wouldn't go away. It was seconds before the hand off, I threw up in my mouth and then Lisa was only a few feet away. I took the bracelet and ran into the darkness. I felt great, my headache subsided, and the cold air was refreshing. I felt like I held a pretty good pace and I even had one kill!
(Adam and Sarah in their full pirate attire... they are so funny!)

We all had our pirate gear on (black bottoms, our pirate shirt, skull and crossbones bandanna, one big hoop earring, skull necklace and ring, finished with a sword) to take pictures! We ate food, bought some S2S shirts/sweatshirts and drove home to Nate and Emily's house. By dinner time we were all smelling much better, but walking funny for some reason. Most of us crashed once our heads hit our pillows. And by the time I woke up I could barely walk up and down the stairs. I'm feeling better, but still walking a little funny.

An adventure of a reunion!
Not so favorites:
- Finding out there was a mouse nest in one of Sarah's mattresses. (I really don't know how you did it! I would've left right then and there! It still made my skin crawl!)
- Hearing the mice scratching at night
- climbing into our bed with only about 18-24 inches of head room (we put an air mattress on top of the mattresses provided on the bottom bunk due to a guard rail on the top bunk.)
- the bugs and flies
- seeing a mouse in the bathroom!!!
- no water from Friday night till Saturday afternoon
- Being really sore from running 10 miles in an hour and a half
- trying to contain my children in the lodge during pictures just so they wouldn't dump dirt on their heads... again!
- Finding a half eaten Starburst IN MY BED!
- Sleeping in the car the last night because the thought of a mouse in my bed was enough for me... I would've gone home had the girls been awake.
- Getting sunburned and looking like a lobster even after applying sunscreen twice!
- Andy committing us for next year's reunion
- Andy losing his wedding ring while golfing
Favorites:
- visiting with everyone
- watching Andy climb into bed... ha, ha!
- playing kickball in the rain (why does it rain every time I go camping?) even with a horrible "kickball"
- smores
- yummy food
- Shelby's reaction when she opened her gift from Katie, "Mooooommmmyyy! I got a Barbie!!!!"
- Katie's reaction when she opened her gift from Shelby. It was the perfect gift of a cell phone and a pair of sunglasses. She doesn't let them leave her sight... even at church!
- Minute to win it--- watching Lisa try and suck up the M&M. I couldn't stop laughing.
- going on a nature hike to see this amazing tree and being able to talk to Maria for a long time... she lives far away and we only see them at the reunion.
- doing tie-dye shirts, and having purple tinted hands for a week
- playing family feud, Koenig style
- seeing everyone run around in their capes and masks for Brown's activity
- seeing how well the cousins get along--- I hardly saw Ashley and Sammy the whole time we were there.
- playing indoor "Wyne" which is the game "spud" but I just changed the name for the night.
- Running 10 miles with Amy and Emily
- Seeing the result of Katie dumping dirt on her head. I would touch her hair and a cloud of dust would poof! She looked blond!
- playing horseshoes and winning every time... that really was because of Andy.
- Lava Hot Springs
- Cafe Rio twice in one week! Mmmm! It's my favorite!!!
Funny things said:
- (Andy to me) Did you have a running dream last night? Your feet kept twitching, and they would alternate. (I think I was just wigged out by the mice.)
- (Ashley) Mommy, I was so fweaked out by the skunk. I thought they were only in books and movies. I didn't know they came to life. I was so fweaked out.
- (Sammy) Mom, this place is not like our house at all! There is dirt everywhere! Our place only has grass. And there is no carpet!
- (Sammy when we returned home) Awe, carpet feels nice.
All in all we did have a good time, but I don't know if I will venture there again. If I were guaranteed there wouldn't be any mice then maybe I would consider it... but I really hate those little creatures! Or maybe I would just bring a tent. Thanks for planning Dana, I know that was a lot of work and we appreciate it!

I'm Ba-ack!
For now I wanted to say that I'm back to running! I have officially started my training for my full marathon. I'm a little behind in my own schedule but ahead of the schedule on www.marathonrookie.com so we'll see how I do. I have run on the track a few times and then started running on the roads this week. The best part is I have found a new running buddy!!! Angela had to skip out on running due to medical reasons. It really put a cramp in my style. :) But a few weeks ago Alysa was at the track and I suckered her into running with me. We had a great time and now she's training for a half marathon and has agreed to run 3 times a week with me! Yahoo!!! I'm so glad and now we'll just have to see how the bum knee holds up. Thanks for sucking it up, Alysa!!!

I'm annoyed!
I'm sitting here trying to do some work while watching You've Got Mail... minding my own business... very late at night. When all of a sudden I got a tap on my door. It was midnight for crying out loud! My first thought was, "Should I go wake up Andy?" My second thought was, "Maybe it's Brandon or Brigetta... no, they would've called first." So I peeked out my front window. (This has happened before and it turned out to be teenagers being immature and they ran off.) Peeking out the window was practically useless. My porch light is burned out and I could barely see a silhouette. My heart was racing and I stood there for a second and thought, "Well, they already know I'm here. I've looked out the blinds and the light is on." I didn't really know what to do and then I saw a woman standing at the edge of the lawn. (This next part I realize was absolutely STUPID on my part.) I opened the door! Thank goodness it was our next door neighbor... but he wanted to tell me that our backyard sprinklers were causing a flood. What?!!! You scared the poop out of me to tell me that you want me to turn off my sprinklers? That really couldn't have waited till morning? And here is the dumb part--- I turned off our sprinklers and our neighbor behind us has his going and there is a run off from his, too. So really I don't think it's just ours, if any that's causing his flood. Maybe they are just watering too much!
Am I crazy for thinking that common courtesy is even if a light is on--- you just DO NOT knock on someones door late at night? They could have called first! I'm sorry, but I'm totally annoyed!

Goin' down memory lane...
When my little sister was about 2 we rented a movie and she loved it!!! She would yell, "Funder, funder, funder cats a hooooo!" It was so cute! Remembering that now I might have to give her a call and tease her about it later.

I need input!
However, the other day I happen to see a Criminal Minds episode that freaked me out. I know it's creepy I like that show, but this particular one was really freaky. It started out that the unsub was able to find his victims through public facebook pages. And the second part that had my heart racing was that it was happening in a City not too far from here. I know we all secretly hope our parts of town are safe... but deep down I think we all know they are just the same as any other city.
And here is the one that is a kicker... literally the day before I watched that episode I received a comment on my blog that was totally normal and encouraging, but I had no idea who it was from. When I clicked on the name, it linked me to a public website (not a blog) that I didn't recognize. That has happened before but then usually the next comment is something along the lines of, "Hey it's Jane, btw... I was on my sister's blog."
I try not to give specific details of where I live, but do you think I'm being way too paranoid by going private? Lend me your thoughts, please!

SURPRISE! It took longer than we expected, but...

I think it's safe to say that Katie is officially potty trained!!! It took a heck of a lot longer than the other two... maybe longer than any child. It literally took her 8 months. I know there are moms out there thinking, "You're insane!" They're probably right. At times I was so tempted to give up and put her back in those awful diapers, but then I remembered how expensive they are. Katie knew how to do it the whole time but she would have at least one accident nearly every day. I don't know if she would just get distracted or if she was lazy and didn't care. She went a whole week without accidents, including nights, so I took her to do this...
Waiting so patiently, and maybe a bit nervous...
She only cried for a minute....
She picked out the pretty pink ones...That's right! We got her ears pierced. Andy was the one who said she could do it when she was all potty trained. And when Katie met the agreement Andy was the one who got her all ready to go. After the lady gave her a sucker and a "Certificate of Bravery" she calmed down and was ready to show anyone and call everyone to tell them all about it!
I know it seems silly to say this but I am so proud of her for finally getting it down. She does it all by herself and it makes me so happy! Oh, and if you are wondering about the headband... it's her favorite and she wears it even though St. Patrick's Day is long gone!

I've been busy
I'm down to my last few sessions of physical therapy and I've been given the okay to test run on Saturday. We'll see how that goes and then I'll add training for a marathon in the mix of my busy schedule. I'm thinking I might have to start doing morning runs just so I don't have to skip days of running. But before I do that I have an appointment on Tuesday to see what the orthopedic doctor says.
Now I have to tell you as quick as possible about a few crazy days of last week. After returning from physical therapy and lunch with some girlfriends, I picked up my girls and Brandon dropped off Porter and Mikayla. (Brigetta and Brandon went on a motorcycle ride that ended up being a bit longer than I expected.) Not long after we got home Sammy and Sophia, the neighbor friend, got off the bus. I immediately noticed Sophia's arm was very swollen. When I asked her what happened she basically told me she hyper extended it the night before, but assured me it was fine. I was not about to believe her with the size of her arm and being pretty warm to the touch. I called her mom she came to pick her up. She left her other two kids with me and then around 8:15 she returned with Sophia's arm in a splint... it was broken! (If you're trying to count that's 7 kids ages 6 and under.)
The next day I had already committed to watching a friend's baby. Brayli was dropped off around 7:30 in the morning (I know Emily is gasping somewhere that I was even conscience that early). Well, a little later Ginger needed to take Sophia to the doctor to get her arm casted. She dropped off her two kids and the two kids she watches every day. Life was a bit hectic, but relatively calm considering how many kids were here. (If you're doing the math again that's 8 kids ages 6 and under and then when Sam left for school it was 7 kids ages 4 and under.) It turned out that Brayli's grandma picked her up early and then Ginger returned shortly after. It allowed me just enough time to clean up and get ready for work. It was all worth it when I was lucky enough to be the first person to sign Sophia's bright pink cast!
Oh, and did I mention young women's? Between lessons, girls camp stuff, and Wednesday night activities, I've been just a tad busy. I'm hoping life will start to settle down... but who am I kidding? I've been thinking that for about 6 years!!! Maybe in my next life I'll get to rest.

Couple funnies!
The other funny thing occurred this morning. While doing the girls' hair I had to get after Katie. I told her that if I ask her to do something she needs to do it immediately. Sammy said, "That sounds like something a queen would say." I replied, "Yeah, and who is the queen of this house?" Sammy said, "You are, and daddy is the king of this house." Ashley had to chime in, "Yeah, and me, Katie, and Sammy are the princesses of this house." I had a hard time controlling my laughter when Sammy said, "Mm, no... I'm the servant!" Such a hard life to be a six year old and only have to unload the dishwasher every other day to earn your keep! It was pretty funny!

Shot through the knee...
After going in for physical therapy yesterday I was told it's time for the cortisone shot (too much "crunchy" scar tissue). Yikes!!! I am such a pansy when it comes to needles. It really is one of my biggest fears and I was not looking forward to the shot, even knowing it will help. So this morning I covered my eyes, tried to control my shaking nerves, and got the shot in my knee!
The shot wasn't that bad. There was a big pinch and some burning and then it was gone. Right now it just feels swollen and full of fluid. Hopefully things will be better in a couple days and I'm back to normal. We'll see... wish me luck!
